As a man, husband, and more recently a father—I have struggled and struggled with sexual temptation. At my breaking point-being “tired” of the ongoing struggle and to seek support—I submitted a prayer request at a recent church leadership retreat, asking the intercessors to pray “That I would always and forever remain faithful to my wife and, never, ever commit adultery.”

I’m printing this disturbing letter I recently received in the hopes that its implicit anti-Semitism and denial and distortion of reality will serve as a wake-up call to morally conservative Christians who are tempted to look the other way from racism and denial of racial atrocities.

At the age of eleven I put my faith in Christ. I was drawn to the foot of the cross and decided to follow Jesus. Shortly after that milestone in my life, I entered puberty. All of a sudden things changed.

I am in favor of the parental notification bill because of the irreparable damage I experienced due to the decisions I made as a minor. When I was 17 years old, I determined that I was mature enough to make my own decisions, and didn’t need my parents’ advice on how to live my life.

It’s the beginning that sets the tone. It needs to touch the heart. It can’t be just another introduction to another class book that students are required to read for a grade.
