I have pointed out before that one thing Republican and Democratic administrations have in common is their apparent unwillingness to do what it takes to balance our budget.  

This is an excerpt from C. S. Lewis’s classic Mere Christianity. If you’ve never read the book, I highly recommend you do. And if you have read it, I think you’ll enjoy rereading it or listening to the audio, as I’ve done recently.  

December 8 is the anniversary of John Lennon’s death. He died 32 years ago. I’m going to end by linking you to a fascinating new video that talks about John Lennon and much more. 

During the election season I addressed the issue of religious liberties and the implications the reelection of our President would have. I so much wish I was wrong about this. 

Our culture lives by a double standard. We place tolerance above all things, including truth. But those who consider themselves unyieldingly tolerant often prove to be decidedly intolerant.  

I have been preaching a lot recently on the story of the Good Samaritan. I believe it’s a fitting message because there are so many people lying at the side of the road today; there are so many who are suffering and need Jesus—both for salvation and for those practical, life-sustaining needs we all have.

I’ve been “rereading” Mere Christianity, actually listening to it on audio. I first read it as a young Christian forty years ago. I’m amazed that this book seems to get even better with time.

What exactly is going to be the outcome of today’s current events in the Middle East and around the world? We simply don’t know. That takes us right back to the Word of God, where we need to be in the first place.

Twenty-three years ago when I was going to jail for civil disobedience, a pastor told me he believed Christians shouldn’t go to jail. I told him I thought the day would come when he would go to jail, not for refusing to go along with abortion, but for refusing to go along with homosexuality.

Another danger that you must address or remember is that you may negatively impact others. It is a sin to lead others into sin, and perhaps what is okay for you will cause somebody else to stumble.

Tony Reinke, a young evangelical thinker who I know and deeply appreciate, has written what I think is an excellent piece on homosexuality, idolatry and happiness.

I have lamented before about the large number of young men who are not readers, and who therefore are not readers of God's Word. 

I really appreciate the two main components of what’s on your heart—grace and truth. Jesus is full of not one or the other, but both. I commend you for this.
