We know that on the New Earth, sin will be done away with and will be no more. (Read more on that from Randy.) So laws restraining people from doing bad or harmful things won’t be necessary. We’ll be fully righteous, and all we do will be honoring to Jesus.

In Jeremiah 31:33-34, God says this about His people: “I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

All people on the New Earth will know and love Jesus and desire to serve and glorify Him. What a wonderful place that will be! And because we’ll be without a sin nature, and clothed with Christ’s righteousness, we’ll all perfectly fulfill God’s commandment: “Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law” (Romans 13:8).

Randy writes in his book Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Heaven:

Hebrews 8:10 says: "This is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the LORD: I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts." God placed just one restriction on Adam and Eve in Eden, and when they disregarded it, the universe unraveled. On the New Earth, God will no longer put that test before us. God’s law, the expression of his attributes, will be written on our hearts. No rules will be needed, for our hearts will be given over to God. What we should do will at last be identical with what we want to do.

One last thought: we’re told that God’s law (His word) will last forever. Randy writes this in Heaven:

We know that sixty-six books, those that comprise the Bible, will be in Heaven—“Your Word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens” (Psalm 119:89). Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35). Presumably, we will read, study, contemplate, and discuss God’s Word.

So in that sense God’s law will still be a part of our lives on the New Earth; but we will be living in its ultimate fulfillment. We’ll finally fully understand that God’s word and His laws are for our eternal good and perfect enjoyment.
