Which of Randy’s books on Heaven would EPM recommend for junior high and high school students? Would it be better to use Heaven for Kids or the larger Heaven book?

Heaven for Kids is recommended for ages 8 to 12. It could feel a bit young for high schoolers and older junior highers. You can read an excerpt here.

The adult book would be good for a more voracious reader but could be overwhelming to some younger readers. It really depends on the student.

Here are a few other books to consider:

- Eternity Graphic novel, which Randy has frequently given to younger readers (We do have a free study guide)

- Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Heaven, set up in a Q&A format

- Picturing Heaven, a coloring book with devotional thoughts about Heaven

Randy offered this input:

If these students are 3rd to 6th grade, they are in the 8 to 12-year-old target audience Heaven for Kids was written for. If they are 7th grade and above, and certainly if they are high schoolers, Heaven for Kids would be too young for them. The big Heaven book is a lot to ask of the typical high schooler (a college student should be able to handle it).

But there’s another solution: using 50 Days of Heaven, which is much shorter and has bite-sized chunks, and I chose what I thought were the best portions of the big book and simplified them. It doesn’t have to be a devotional; it could have been entitled “Heaven and the New Earth, in 50 Short Segments.”

Also, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Heaven is much shorter and has a lower reading level. So it’s not just a choice between the big book and the kids’ book. I like 50 Days better; some might like Everything About Heaven. Either would be a good option.
