Question from a reader:
Scripture tells us Jesus intercedes for us. Will He still intercede for us after the last judgment in eternity?
Answer from Randy Alcorn:
I think He will always intercede for us because He loves us, and because even though we will not always be sinners, we will always be His finite creatures. To be finite is to be needy, even if one is morally perfect.
Prior to sin, Adam and Eve needed God, and after we are no longer sinners, we will need God as much as ever. The references to the leaves of the tree of life being for the healing of the people in eternity (Revelation 22:2) seems to suggest that our perfected state won’t mean we will be once and for all made invulnerable like comic book characters, but that God will always intervene and supply for us. He will continue to give us everything we need in terms of food and drink, air to breathe, and lungs that will always allow us to breathe.
In eternity, He will not make us self-sufficient and no longer in need of Him; on the contrary, we will always draw from His sufficiency on our behalf and be dependent on Him. Therefore, I think, we’ll be dependent upon not only His provision, but also His continual presence and love and intercession in order to experience all that He has for us in the ages to come.
