The basic problem with the health-and-wealth gospel is that it is man-centered rather than God-centered. When approached from the prosperity posture, prayer degenerates into coercion, where we “name it and claim it,” pulling God’s leash until He comes through. We attempt to arm-twist the Almighty into underwriting comfortable, suffering-free lifestyles.

Please remember that it takes time to reach that place of perspective. Be patient with yourself during this process. It can take three or more years just to get past the fog and confusion of a major loss.

On November 14, 2019, Nanci wrote the following in her journal: “Today I am thinking about faith. I have learned so much about faith. ...Faith is being assured that God Almighty always acts according to His character and works. He never waivers.”

No one has greater credibility to speak on this subject than Joni Eareckson Tada, who in July will mark the 50^th anniversary of the accident that left her a quadriplegic. 

I have dealt with many of the things that you may feel you are dealing with right now, too – like, why did God let this happen? Will God heal me? Is healing a matter of having enough faith and believing it’s true?

I believe that as finite human beings who will live in space and time, we will go through a never-ending process of learning in Heaven, in that we will learn MORE as time goes on (Eph. 2:7). However, 1 Cor. 13:12 seems to suggest there will be immediate clarity of vision in God’s presence.

My friend Barry Arnold pastors Cornerstone Church here in Gresham, Oregon. Last year he sent an email to his church regarding prayer. It’s worth quoting.

Why doesn't God cure everyone who prays fervently for healing? The life context of the question is all too familiar. The issue arises in our darkest hours—in the hospital ward, in the doctor's office, when the unfavorable test results return. Our need often arises unexpectedly and then consumes us.
