Acts 17:11 says that "Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true." We should come to God's Word with "great eagerness."

To be honest, I sometimes tire of all the emailed and website warnings I receive about how the civil rights of Christians are being eroded. Yes, there is usually some truth in them, but overstatement as well. So I’m sometimes skeptical. In this case, however, posting this article from the Washington Times seems appropriate.  

Let me summarize the secular/atheist and Christian foundations for the value of life, then you tell me whether it's any wonder that many people today are feeling like they, their lives, and the lives of others have so little meaning or worth.

Biblical illiteracy among Christians is arguably at an all time high, with chilling implications that can hardly be overstated. I know that various things in the church will inevitably change, such as songs and hymns taking on new forms, and that's fine. What isn't fine is for God's people to neglect His Word.  

For too long, evangelical Christians have neglected our God-given calling to care for the planet entrusted to us. One reason may be that our eschatology indicates the earth is headed for ruin anyway, so there’s no point in trying to rearrange the furniture on the Titanic.

Nanci is more football-crazy than I am, but we both really enjoy football season, and sort of hate to see it winding down as the Superbowl approaches. The national college championship game was played a week ago. Congratulations to the Florida Gators and quarterback Tim Tebow, named Most Valuable Player.

At present, the battle front on abortion is not the Supreme Court or the White House. The legal battle on abortion should be directed at our Senators and U.S. Congressmen, as well as our state representatives.

I do know my conscience won’t permit me to cast a vote for those who turn their back on children, and defend the shedding of innocent blood.

If we get it wrong about Jesus, it doesn’t matter what else we get right.

Last week, same sex couples were married all over California. The future is predictable. Streams of people will come from all over the country to be married in California, and then will go back to their home states and argue that their marriage licenses should be honored. What will the states decide?
