If Jesus had become a ghost and did not physically rise from the dead, He would not have accomplished our redemption. 

What if what God did about this world of pain and misery was so great and unprecedented that it shook the angelic realm’s foundation, and ripped in half, from the top down, not only the temple curtain but the fabric of the universe itself?

The following is an excerpt from my novel Deadline, which portrays the character Finney, now residing in Heaven, discussing the incarnation with an angel. I hope this fictional account will help you see Christ’s birth—and ultimately His death—from a fresh perspective.

Over the last two and a half years of grief since Nanci died, I have been sensing deeply the friendship of Jesus. What could be better than for Him to not only love us so much that He would die for us, but to actually call us His friends, and not just servants? 

To become radical like Jesus we must be intentional, passionate, and curious when it comes to spending time with the Father. Nobody embodied this more than young Jesus. 

I’ve been studying the love of Christ, and my heart has been touched first by Scripture, and second by great thoughts from God’s people. Hope you find these truths encouraging!

Here is what the excellent ESV Study Bible says: "The wording suggests that these saints were not merely brought back to life (like Lazarus; John 11:44) but were 'raised' (Matt. 27:52) with new, resurrection bodies, a foretaste of what would happen to all believers at Christ’s return."

Tozer wrote, "Nothing about our Lord Jesus Christ has changed down to this very hour. His love has not changed. His compassionate understanding of us has not changed. His interest in us and His purposes for us have not changed."

The physical resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of redemption. Without it and what it means—an eternal future for fully restored humans dwelling on a fully restored Earth—there’s no Christianity.

The unhappy suffering and death of Jesus ultimately guaranteed the death of death and the elimination and reversal of the curse. It also guaranteed the eternal happiness of all who believe and trust in Jesus and His unfathomable suffering on our behalf, all for our eternal good and His eternal glory.

I am a great fan of G.K. Chesterton, but I don’t recall ever reading this poem of his until last year. Though it is an old-style rhyming poem, it really moved me. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
