In this conversation with Davey Blackburn from Nothing Is Wasted Ministries, Randy talks about the question everyone who has lost a loved one has wondered: what can we expect when it comes to Heaven? Randy and Davey discuss why we need a heavenward focus in our suffering, what we actually know (and what we don’t) when it comes to Heaven, and why our theology matters in thinking about life beyond what we can see. 

The clear reality is that this earth, as it is now, is not Heaven. (I think of wars going on around the world, and the death of Randy’s wife Nanci.) So many hurting hearts, in such a broken, pain-filled world.

The form of disposition you choose for your body after you die will NOT keep you from eternal life with Jesus if you have responded to the gospel and believed in Jesus’s death for your sins.

Scripture indicates that the city really will “come down,” not just hover over the New Earth, as the emphasis seems to be on God dwelling with His people.

Randy spoke with Matt Brown, on the Think Eternity Podcast, about Heaven and the New Earth.

Randy recorded a message for the memorial service of a long-time friend and fellow church member, Bob Atkins Sr. He shares the hope of Heaven and a future on the New Earth for all who trust in Jesus, where there will be a glorious reunion with Bob, his wife Patty, and many loved ones. 

I hope this answer clarifies what is possible to know based on Scripture, and provokes some thoughts about what we don’t know for sure.

Please notice that our job is to believe and to seek. The rewards are up to Him. So chase Him, and let Him take care of the rewards and life direction and all the other ‘wind and waves’ circumstances in your life.

All who know Jesus will live together in that resurrected world, with the Lord we love and the friends we cherish. We’ll embark together on the ultimate adventure in a spectacular new universe awaiting our exploration and dominion.

How much better will we be able to praise Yahweh than in Heaven, where we’ll have time, resources, and the ability to write and create and perform more God-glorifying music than ever?
