In 2014 Nanci and I attended the first illumiNations. In those days it was estimated that at the current rate of Bible translation, it would be 2150 before every people group would have at least a portion of God’s Word in their language. At this year’s gathering, they announced that the new projected date of introducing God’s Word to the last Bibleless people group is now 2033!

One of the organizations Eternal Perspective Ministries supports is the biblical, Jesus-centered, and effective ministry of International Justice Mission. As the following article from IJM explains, their real-life work combatting child trafficking is nothing like what’s shown in the movies.

Though I rarely highlight specific giving opportunities on our website, I’m making an exception for these. I am struck at how inexpensively many people can be helped, and would love to suggest that you consider giving to help these needy people this Christmas.

Last year, Operation Mobilization told me they wanted to honor Nanci's influence on the ministry by renaming the library on board Logos Hope, “The Nanci Alcorn Memorial Library.” Our daughters Karina and Angela were able to go to the dedication to witness it firsthand.

It’s been over three weeks since there were multiple fires on the island of Maui, including a devastating fire that destroyed historic and once beautiful Lahaina town. Please continue to pray for the thousands of people who have been affected.

A year ago, I got a phone call from Operation Mobilization, an organization Nanci and I have loved for years. They asked how I felt about their naming the ship library on Logos Hope after Nanci. I was, of course, honored, and knew Nanci would be, because we absolutely loved our visit to the ship six years ago, when it was docked in Jamaica.

Randy spoke to a gathering of illumiNations partners (Bible translation and resource partners working together to eradicate Bible poverty in this generation). He shared about the gift of generous giving, as well as Revelation 5:9 and the hope of God’s Word reaching people of every tribe and language and nation.

In this video clip from an event Randy Alcorn and George Verwer did together in 2013, George shares about needs around the world, and passionately implores God’s people to get a vision for giving to get the gospel to the unreached.

Steve Saint texted me last Sunday, reminding me that it was the 67th anniversary of the death of his father Nate Saint and the other missionary martyrs in Ecuador: Jim Elliot, Ed McCully, Roger Youderian, and Pete Fleming. Their story touched me deeply as a brand-new Christian. 

Contrast your investment in “the least of these” with buying an RV, a larger TV, or a high-end vacation, or putting more money into an already ample retirement plan. It’s not that those things are inherently bad; simply consider their temporal nature and the longer lasting, and so eternally beautiful impact of money given to reach the unreached, get clean water to a remote village, or feed hungry children.

I really love this article by Scott Hubbard, editor at Desiring God, for several reasons. It is so powerful from a missions perspective. Plus, I’m a huge fan of Isaac Watts who was not only a hymn writer but also a great theologian.

Earlier this year I shared on my blog about a group EPM supports, MedSend, that funds qualified healthcare professionals who address the physical and spiritual needs of people around the world. They recently sent us this powerful story from a physician assistant who has served in Southeast Asia for seven years.

Brian Stewart, ACTION USA’s Executive Director, writes, “The suffering of the Ukrainian people has greatly increased, but so have the opportunities to share the Gospel and minister to urgent needs.”

I love Water Mission, and it’s an organization that Eternal Perspective Ministries is thrilled to support. I asked Scott Linebrink, a Major League baseball pitcher for twelve years who now serves as Partnerships Director for Water Mission, if he would share about why he believes so much in their work to provide communities with clean drinking water.
