God has created each of us with certain desires that correspond to certain motivations. Each of us has built-in desires for pleasure, possessions, and power. At first this may sound unbiblical, because we have come to think of these things as temptations.

In Matthew 6, Jesus says there is only one safe place to invest, and that is in the Kingdom of God. He says, in essence, “You can’t take it with you,” but he adds a life-changing corollary: “but you can send it on ahead.”

In health and wealth theology, God is seen as a great no-lose lottery in the sky....

I’ve spoken on Matthew 6 in Kenya and Cambodia, but I change illustrations, while still focusing on the importance of giving. I believe giving is universal, a timeless principle, which God taught to and expected of the poorest Israelite.

So, I shouldn’t be bragging about my Bible study or prayer or evangelism or parenting or giving, but I shouldn’t be covering it up either.

We Christians in American desperately need such a radical paradigm shift. A new way of seeing. We need to capture a vision for eternal treasure, to become energized by it.
