The following is a conversation between two Christians who have different viewpoints on the issue of birth control. 

The so-called mini-pill is the least reliable in suppressing ovulation. Therefore, its mechanism of action is more likely to be post-ovulatory—that is, abortifacient.

I am a family physician and professor at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. I am also one of the physicians on the Physicians Resource Council (PRC) at Focus on the Family.

Perhaps your doctor is uninformed and hasn’t read information on the possible abortifacient aspect of the pill.

There is (at least in my mind and many others) an inconsistency in our position statement. I believe that there is considerable evidence that so-called birth control pills (BCPs) do have a significant post-ovulatory (abortifacient) effect. 

In my opinion it would be unwise to not recognize that everyone, including you and me, has vested interests. 

Science confirms exactly what Scripture demonstrates, that there is a point at which human life does not exist and then is suddenly created by God. In Science this is known as the point of conception.

If you only want section specifically on breathing, go to 6f below.     As to Scripture and beginning of life, I follow with excerpt from Appendix B: Abortion in the Bible and Church History. The portion concerning Jesus and John the Baptist in Luke 1 is especially revealing I think.

“The babies [Jacob and Esau] jostled each other within her [Rebekah].” (Genesis 25:22)

Each year, Sanctity of Human Life Sunday marks the anniversary of the United States Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade on January 22, 1973. There is a great spiritual warfare associated with the issue of abortion.

Can Christians, or any citizens with a respect for life, participate in good conscience in the supervised overproduction of human embryos that ultimately leads to such destruction?
