I am reading this wonderful and thrilling book, Heaven, which you have written. On page 172 you refer to your novel, Edge of Eternity, when Nick Seagrave at last sees Yeshua: "I saw before me an aged, weathered King.” My question to you is, God is also known as The Ancient of Days, but aged could also mean old. Isn’t old age part of the Curse?

I’ve read many accounts of experiences in which people who do not know Christ claim to have gone to Heaven, or its outskirts, and were reassured by a “being of light” that all is well with them. I’m convinced that though some have had real supernatural experiences, the one who reassured them was not Jesus.

There are people who reason, If I give generously, I’ll have to worry about where the money will come from to replace what I’ve given. But Jesus actually says the opposite. 

The bottom line is we don’t know how that will all work out, but we do know that God is good, and that we can trust Him.

I think a question that could really get to the heart of this issue and provide some clarity is asking yourself, “Does this act point me to Jesus and help me glorify God in my life?”

The last thing we want to do is to impose hard and fast rules on believers, or come across as legalistic. Giving is an act of obedience, and it’s also an act of joy and of grace because we know the love of Jesus.

God defines what a “good heart” is, and His standard is perfection, something we could never, ever achieve on our own. Nothing less than accepting His offer of salvation and trusting His ability to cleanse our hearts will suffice.

I relate to your concerns because I too, want to watch my children grow up. I believe that ultimately, it is a matter of trust. Do we trust Jesus to return at exactly the right time?

If you are aware of the potential abortifacient effects of the pill, then it is important that you not suppress or deny those convictions, but honestly and graciously provide your patients with full and clear information about its various effects.

At the end of the day we have neither control over nor responsibility for the choices our adult children make. We can only model good choices and live in a way that reflects Jesus. We can pray, we can love well, and we can trust our perfect Father for the outcome.

Love is not a contract in which one party must fulfill its obligations in order to receive love. I’m really grateful that God wants a relationship with us and not just lists of responsibilities we must fulfill in order to earn His love.

This is certainly a situation where you will want to ask for and rely on God’s wisdom for what to say and not to say (James 1:5).

Over the years, the friendships Nanci and I enjoyed most, like with our friends Steve and Sue Keels, and Paul and Michele Norquist, are the ones where we laugh and have fun together but also talk about the things that really matter. Those kind of friendships are worth seeking out and preserving.

Eight years ago, Nanci and I did a question and answer time with the group of young moms at our church. One of the questions we answered was, “What do you like most about Jesus?” I remember this question and Nanci’s answer well.
